Breaking: US SEC Enforcement Director Steps Down, Gary Gensler Next?

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that Gurbir S. Grewal, Director of the Division of Enforcement, will be leaving the agency, effective October 11, 2024.

US SEC Enforcement Director Steps Down

Gurbir S. Grewal, who has served as the US SEC’s Director of Enforcement since 2021, will officially depart the agency on October 11, 2024. Grewal has been praised for his efforts to restore trust and compliance within the financial markets.

Under his leadership, the US SEC’s Division of Enforcement has overseen numerous significant cases, including those in the rapidly expanding cryptocurrency sector. During his tenure, the division authorized over 2,400 enforcement actions, resulting in over $20 billion in penalties and returned funds to harmed investors.
